Healthy Chili Recipe! Turkey, Sweet Potato & Butternut Squash Chili

January 18, 2018 By Lindsay Gee

If you’re tired of the same ‘ol, same ‘ol chili, you’ve GOT to give this veggie and protein-packed healthy chili recipe a try! It’s delicious and super good for you. I just throw everything into my slow cooker and walk away for the day, but if you have an hour, you can absolutely cook this on your stovetop as well!

Enjoy! Let me know how you like it! It’s hearty, it’s delicious and it’s seriously packed with nutritious goodness. What more could you ask for in a chili? Hmmmm?

Oh! And something cool that I’ve found?! In the recipe, it calls for hot sauce, and you can use any hot sauce you love. BUT, there is this super cool company called Fuego Box and they do monthly or quarterly hot sauce subscriptions! Each box comes with three totally different hot sauces to try and it can totally change the flavor of your recipes (in a good way!)! So, if you’re a hot sauce connoisseur, or even just want to try something new, I’d totally recommend checking them out! The sauces are delicious AND it’s fun to try all the different flavors! Also…keep these in mind as a gift for those hard-to-buy-for people in your life!

The recipe:

I Ate Peanut Butter Balls Every Day for 2 Weeks – Here’s What Happened

December 27, 2017 By Lindsay Gee

Lately, I’ve seen a lot of articles like “I drank lemon water every day for 2 weeks – here’s what happened” or “I put cayenne on everything for 2 weeks – here’s what happened”. So, me being me, I wanted to jump on that bandwagon and do my own experiment.

With peanut butter balls. Because…well…I’m me.

I’ve taken the list of effects others have written about magic lemon water and spicy, blow-your-buns-out food and ran my own peanut butter ball experiment.

The results are staggering.

Complexion Enhancer

After two weeks of peanut butter (not even the natural kind, because honestly, why the eff would I do that?!), rice crispies, powdered sugar and semi-sweet chocolate my complexion is…oily. AKA: shiny and fresh and feels super smooth and slick. There may be a few more pimples on my chin and forehead but the oil makes me shine like those young, fresh-faced annoying 20-something’s complexions that seem to glow no matter what time of day it is. I’m pretty sure I’ve taken about 10 years off the look of my face simply due to the excess oil.

I consider this a win.

Immune Booster

Peanut butter is a “known” immune booster. You didn’t know that did you? Well, let me fill you in. It’s packed with Vitamin E and “flu-fighting” anti-oxidants, so my experiment was well-timed because I’ve been fighting this nagging cough/chest/sore throat/cold thing for about 6 weeks now and I’d love some relief. Also, I read on the interweb machine that peanut butter is an incredible immune booster, so I’m sure it’s true.

My results? After 2 weeks of eating peanut butter balls (maybe more than one – stop judging me) every day, I still have this f**king illness and it’s kicking my arse every day. Perhaps I need to go to the doctor? Maybe there are meds (I think they’re called penicillin or some other fancy word I can’t remember). I will let my doctor know that I DID dose with peanut butter and I’m sure he’ll be super surprised that didn’t work.

Prescription meds, it is.

Good try, peanut butter balls…you failed this one.

Weight Loss Aid

Hold onto your panties, Mamas, because this one is going to shock you.

I gained weight. Didn’t lose an ounce.

I’m as shocked as you.

(And yes, I’m in my bathroom. I’m hiding. I don’t share peanut butter balls)

Mood Booster

I ate peanut butter balls for 2 weeks every day…how could my mood not be boosted? I mean, seriously. You pop those little balls into your mouth (wait, what?!) on the daily, you bet your sweet buns I’m feeling amazing. I mean, the weight gain’s got me a little down and I still feel like ass because of this cold, but my skin is oily and glow-y and I LOVE eating peanut butter balls. So…my mood?

BOOMSHAKALAKA!

Heck yeah I feel good about myself.

Except when I don’t. Like, after my 5th one in a day, that’s a bit much. I got a little bloated and seem to be retaining water. I blame the sugar for that one, not the peanut butter. Or the chocolate. I would never EVER blame those two gifts from the heavens above.

Peanut butter balls for 2 weeks = joy and happiness.

But then regret and something akin to…disgust? I can’t believe I just wrote that. I take it back. If only there was a way to erase what I just wrote! The horror!

The Results Are In

If you’re looking for a way to grease up your skin, boost your immune system (but not really), gain weight and experience moments of euphoria followed by moments of guilt and regret, peanut butter ball eating for 2 weeks on the daily is for YOU!

Obviously, this was a single subject experiment and your experience may differ.

But, I think it may be time for me to knock it off and eat a…vegetable. Or a salad. Maybe time to get in a sweaty workout. And drink some water.

It may be time for me to crawl Back on the Bandwagon.

I mean, you know I’d do anything for all of you and in my heart of hearts, I’m a researcher. But erm…I’m kinda over those chocolate balls for the season and seriously cannot wait to get on a different track.

The Funny Thing About Growing an Empire

December 19, 2017 By Lindsay Gee

As most of you know, I’m the proud Founder of a company called Hot Mama Health & Fitness. We “build community through family fitness”…meaning we support, empower, inspire and motivate parents to get active and be healthy role models while also providing a space for Mamas to go to get safe and loving support for the ups and downs of Motherhood.

My days are filled with spreadsheets, writing, timelines, troubleshooting, supporting, developing, digging, worrying, pushing, inspiring and sweat. Because yes, I still find the time to workout. I still work from my home office, so I do all of this with my kids interrupting me on the daily (hourly?). And, even when I’m “done work for the day”…it’s literally 5 steps away. (I really cannot wait to get an office outside the home!)

But, here’s the thing: Every now and then, I look up and I look back. Every now and then I need to remind myself that all the effort, the sweat, the frustration, the doubt, the worry and the fear are all worth it. And, it usually comes around this time of year.

Here’s the funny thing about growing an empire: people you don’t know love what you do even if they don’t know that you’re the one doing it. Now, I know that doesn’t make a lot of sense, so bear with me, I’ll give you a few examples of what I’m talking about…

I started Hot Mama out of my garage…you need to know that so that when I tell you the rest, it might help you understand where I’m coming from. So okay, there I am 5.5 years ago inviting women into my house to destroy it (because…well…kids) while I make them sweat in my garage. All good. Fast forward 5.5 years and here we are…30 franchises strong, 1000’s of women in the Hot Mama community, more asking to join and programs I’ve developed and designed changing lives on the daily.

That’s not the funny part.

Here’s the funny part. Me…walking in a mall past a gorgeous Mama that I don’t know and she’s wearing a Hot Mama hoodie. Me…driving in a city I’ve never been to behind a car that has a “You’re following a Hot Mama” bumper sticker. Me…seeing photos on Facebook of my Hot Mama logo getting placed onto Christmas ornaments and Mamas LOVING it. Me…reading post after post about how our Hot Mama programs have changed and improved lives and inspired families to get active, together. Me…walking into a restaurant and someone asking if I’m the “OHM” and asking for a photo.

At-Home Workout: Med Ball Core Crush

December 11, 2017 By Lindsay Gee

Core work! Core work! Core work! Say it with me…core work!

A lot of people think of their core as only their abdominals and while they’re partially correct, your core is so much more than just your abs. I always tell people to think of their core running from the base of their head all the way down to the back of their knees. Front and back. So, when you have an instructor who says “engage your core”, we’re not simply saying “pull your belly button to your spine”, I’m talking “head in line with your spine, shoulder bladed pulled back and down, corset tightened, belly button to spine, squeeze your glutes and pull your pelvic floor up, up, up”. So yeah, more than just your abs.

This workout includes a medicine ball, but don’t worry if you don’t have one! You can grab any soccer/volley/basketball-sized ball and get to work! Trust me when I tell you, you definitely don’t need the added weight of the med ball to make this workout effective.

But, if you find you do find that you need added weight, you can use a dumbbell and simply modify the exercises to make it work.

This workout is 8 minutes of work, 2 minutes of rest.

Each block is 2 minutes. In each block, there are two exercises. Complete Exercise #1 for 30 seconds, then Exercise #2 for 30 seconds. Repeat twice. That equals 20 minutes. Rest for 30 seconds then move on to the next block.

Med Ball Core Crush:

If you’d like to have me coach you through the workout, you can listen to this workout via podcast. CLICK HERE to access the podcast and listen to my sweet, sweet voice talk you through.

Be sure to watch THIS SHORT VIDEO before you start this workout so you know exactly what to do for each exercise.

Alright, Mamabears! Time for YOU to get your core to work! Let me know how it goes!

Off you go!
