Podcasts! WHO KNEW?!

June 27, 2019 By Lindsay Gee Leave a Comment

The thought of 12 hours in the car with my two kids, ages 8 and 10, had me a little daunted, I’m not gonna lie! Every year we travel to Saskatchewan for a family reunion. It’s SUPER fun once we get there (ain’t nothin’ better than small town Saskatchewan on Canada Day!), but getting there is long and booooooooring.

BUT…this year, THIS YEAR, I attempted podcasts to make the drive a little more exciting.

It started like all other mornings….me panicking to get out the damn door so we didn’t miss the ferry. But once across on the ferry, we got into our rhythm and I thought “Alright, let’s see what all the fuss is it all about”!

Well…NOW I KNOW!

I realize I have my own podcast Dig Deep with Dr. Lindsay Gee…but I record workouts and coach you through the entire session…so it’s not really full of talking and information…it’s not your “typical” podcast.

I asked my bestie which podcast I should download and she said she’d heard good things about “Moms and Murder“. I’m a Mom and I like True Crimes…so what could go wrong?

Oprah’s Soulful Conversations was also recommended, so I ended up downloading about five episodes from that series.

There’s also a Pinterest podcast I should have downloaded…but I wanted mindless and not really super thought-provoking, to be honest. I kinda wanted to just listen to stories and GET TO WHERE I HAD TO GO!

The Pinterest one will be good when I am in work-mode…but I’ve been full-on work mode for about 6 months and I needed mindless, non-work chatter.

The result?

PODCASTS ARE AWESOME!

Listen, I know most of you know this already, but this was (#truthbomb) my first ever podcast listening. Ever. Ever, ever, ever!

So, I downloaded about 6 episodes from Moms and Murder…and the time FLEW! I did have to be careful…my kids were plugged in to their own movies, but I watched and any time they took their headphones off I paused my podcast. Probably best they didn’t hear about Moms killing their babies…

ANYWHO…

Time flew, flew, flew!

Did y’all know about these things?! Are you a podcast lover?!

I WANNA KNOW…what’s your fav! I have another 8 hours today…so…what do I download?

What’s your fav podcast?

Any recommendations for podcasts to listen to WITH your kids????? My son ended up listening to one of them with me about Diane Schuler (the mom who drove the wrong way down the highway and ended up killing herself and a bunch of kiddos)…and was hooked. But, I decided it wasn’t the best content for him…so…

Recommendations???

I know I’m behind the times, but if you’ve never listened to a podcast…YOU GOTTA! It was the shortest 10 hour drive ever and I was riveted to the content.

The best!!!

I want your recommendations! Please drop them below…I’m officially a podcast convert! Now…gimme your favs!

The One Piece of Fitness Equipment You Should Add to Your Collection for the Summer

June 19, 2019 By Lindsay Gee Leave a Comment

There are so many pieces of fitness equipment out there for you to choose from, how can you decide what piece you need?

Um…you come here? Yeah, that’s definitely the answer.

I’ve always recommended three pieces of equipment for your home:

#1 – Treadmill (that’s a big investment, I get it if that one is not available to you).

#2 – TRX – I love the TRX and I think everyone should have one in their home.

#3 – Free weights. They are versatile and help in so many ways (hello metabolism, bone density, balance and strength!).

However, I’m asked a lot what I recommend to take along for vacations, work travel, or simply something less expensive than a treadmill or a TRX system.

No problem!

When you’re traveling over the summer, the one piece of equipment you should absolutely take with you is:

via GIPHY

Resistance bands!

These beauties are fairly inexpensive, easy to travel with and you can absolutely get a full-body workout! They look non-threatening and many snicker when I pull them out for a class. But, they learn quickly to never doubt the power of the band. If bands are used properly, your muscles will be burning, you’ll be sweating and you’ll have yourself one bombass workout in no time.

In fact, here are two workouts I’ve created with resistance bands:

15-Minute Upper Body Band Workout

Podcast of the above Upper Body Band workout available HERE. Let me coach you through the workout. Yup, put in your earbuds, press play and let my sweet, sweet voice motivate you through the workout. xo

Click the link above for a full workout explanation.

18-Minute Lower Body Band Workout

Yup…this one has a podcast available, too. Click HERE and let me take care of timings and instruction for you. 🙂

Here’s why I love these Peach Bands so much:

  • They’re relatively inexpensive ($21.99 for 4 bands through Amazon);
  • They’re lightweight and portable;
  • They come as a package deal with 4 different resistances (light – extra heavy);
  • They are 100% refundable;
  • They work, baby. They may look cute, but this piece of equipment packs a serious burny punch and I think you’ll love them!

Resistance bands are absolutely, positively my 100% approved recommendation for the piece of equipment you should pack to go camping, vacationing, road-trippin’ or whatever else you do this summer.

Go on…get yourself some and try the workouts.

If you’re part of Choose Your Own Fitventure, you have bonus band workouts available as part of your challenges! Aren’t you lucky?!?! YAY! And, if you haven’t joined CYOF yet…you should. You really, really should!

Want to Get Healthy But Not do Burpees? Okay…I Can Help You With That!

June 15, 2019 By Lindsay Gee 2 Comments

Well…not really, because I love to incorporate burpees into workouts. My love of burpees trumps your desire to not do them. Ha! While I don’t promise zero burpees, I do promise to give you a way to help you get on track and stay on track with your health and fitness that is fun, supportive and affordable (FREE, in fact, for your first week!). Welcome to…

I created Choose Your Own Fitventure from a successful challenge I posted in my Fueled Life group on Facebook (you should also join that!). I started thinking that everyone always focuses on fitness when it comes to their health. Although that is absolutely one aspect to leading a healthy and energized life, it’s far from the only thing people that is important.

What about nutrition? Sleep? Joy? Friendship? Kindness? Loving yourself?

I’ve seen challenge after challenge out there focused on fitness. I love them. I truly do. I create a lot of them. But, your health is so much more than getting sweaty. Your energy is so much more than getting your workout done. Your happiness comes from so much more than core strength, leg strength, etc.

So, I figured I should create something that helps you discover how to treat yourself right in various areas of health, fitness, wellness…and more!

I started giving the Fueled Lifers Choose Your Own Fitventure challenges where I would create five challenges for the week and then they could organize their week and decide what day to do what challenge.

Feedback was phenomenal. And me? I simply loved seeing people focusing on things like sleep, eating vegetables, taking time for themselves and what the what…drinking water! It was inspiring.

It was then that I decided to create an entire challenge group called Choose Your Own Fitventure.

How does it work?

The challenge runs through an app on your phone, so everything is organized and easy to find. Every Sunday I drop five new challenges. Your goal? Complete all of the challenges within the week.

You earn points, which add up to earn you surprise rewards that unlock at a certain points value.

There’s tons of accountability and support through our chat room and every day there is an accountability card that has facts, bonus workouts, quotes or some sort of silliness to ensure you stay on track and get your challenges done for the week.

Below are a few examples of the challenges included in Choose Your Own Fitventure. There is always an explanation on why the challenge is included and what the expectation is, below is just a summary of three of the challenges:

Sleep is the bee’s knees: Sleep is critical to your health and wellness, both physically and mentally. The participants were challenged to schedule at least 8 hours of sleep for one night. Yes, with little people in your life, you cannot ensure that this will happen…but you can at least prep for it with an earlier bedtime, a good bedtime routine, etc.

Veggie prep: Participants were encouraged to prep 14 mini containers filled with easy-to-grab cut-up veggies. It’s much easier to grab something healthy (instead of a handful of crackers) when there is a ready-to-go snack waiting for you in the fridge.

Self-care sesh: As promised, I really want my Fitventurers to take care of themselves. I challenged them to schedule 60 minutes of self-care for the following week. Some have blocked off time to read a book and drink a HOT coffee, others have scheduled hair appointments or pedicures, while others are going for a hike with a bestie. Whatever self-care looks like for them, is what they were challenged to schedule for at least 60 minutes.

The challenges are not overwhelming and truly do highlight numerous aspects of health and wellness. Participants also received a workout challenge and physical activity challenge this week.

The membership is very affordable at $20/month and even better? I’ve decided to offer a FREE WEEK trial. So, give it a whirl for FREE!!!!

Try Choose Your Own Fitventure for a week for FREEEEEE!

Go on! Get yourself registered for your free week. You have nothing to lose and sooooooo much to gain. The people in this group are the most incredible people ever. They’re supportive, funny, silly and in it to feel better and get inspired to try new ways of thinking about health and fitness. I just love them all!

I’d love if you joined! Hope to see you in your free trial! We’ll have a blast. And you’ll feel better. I just know it.

The BEST Mother’s Day Gift Ever – You Need One Right NOW!

June 8, 2019 By Lindsay Gee 8 Comments

I know Father’s Day is next weekend and I don’t mean to steal the thunder from any of the Daddies out there, but my Mother’s Day gift arrived this week and it is The. BEST. EVER.

When I find something I really, really love…I share it with my peeps. You’re my peeps, so I’m sharing it with you.

A little back story – I’m a cold person. Not a “mean” cold person, but a cold-cold person. I am always cold. Freezing. I used to have to wear a fleece jacket and a toque to meetings when I worked outside the home. And, because I’m cheap and refuse to have the heat cranked, working from home, I wear about 5 layers and a blanket while I work at my computer.

Freezing.

A few weeks ago I went to a good friend’s house for a fire. I’d spent the day at the ball diamond, I hadn’t eaten all day, I got sunburned and I was freeeeezing, even with the fire. She said “WAIT…you need my Comfy!” and grabbed me the best thing ever! The Comfy.

I raved about it to my family, so my son decided that was what he wanted to get me for Mother’s Day! I have worn it all week. It’s about 24 degrees celcius here…so it’s warm and beautiful but, in my office, it’s the North Pole.

But…not anymore!

Everyone, let me introduce you to THE COMFY!

It’s a blanket YOU WEAR!

I wear it working.

I wear it to snuggle my kids.

I even wore it to pick my kids up from school because I didn’t want to get cold from being outside. That wasn’t super popular and I probably shouldn’t do that again.

I wear it first thing in the morning while I’m writing and I’m no longer freezing. In fact, I get HOT and have to take it off!

I wore it to bed one night until my husband laughed and said I looked like Grimace from old school McDonald’s days…so I decided maybe The Comfy should stay out of the bedroom. Ha!

via GIPHY

I will take it to hockey and not freeze my hiney off at the rink for months on end. It’s going to be amazing around the campfire this summer on our camping trips.

It’s so super snuggly I never want to take it off. Except when I have those stupid mini perimenopausal hot flashes (more on that in another post…but seriously…wtf, body?!).

You need one of these. I don’t work for The Comfy people, I just seriously love The Comfy and I think everyone needs to get super snuggly and cozy. There are lots of colors to choose from! So, get yourself one and then we can have a The Comfy party and be a big blob of snuggly warmth and coziness.

What to Expect with my “Lindsay Tries” Video Series

February 10, 2019 By Lindsay Gee Leave a Comment

Over the past 22 years I’ve been lucky enough to work in the fitness industry as a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology, a Canadian Forces recruit trainer, a fitness leader advocating for family fitness and as a group exercise instructor in front of 100’s of people stepping, grapevining and HIIT’ing up a storm. To say I love fitness would be an understatement. This industry is my true passion and any time I get to help educate, motivate and/or inspire someone to get moving, I am in my happiest of happy places. I adore it.

Being in the industry for so many years and founding a company built on women supporting women has led to a wicked following of women who are kind, funny, supportive, authentically real and absolutely incredible. The great thing about that in my eyes? Y’all trust me to give you honest opinions, to not advocate for quick fixes when it comes to your fitness and health and to make you laugh. I am me, no hiding that in my social posts, and I’m so grateful that you continue to follow along through this quirky and amazing life I get to lead.

Over the years you’ve asked my opinion on a lot of things. From fitness to nutrition to equipment to skincare to clothing to you name it, you’ve asked me. I’m often asked how I relax, take care of myself and what I do for fun. So, I thought…hey…I’m going to start shooting video of me trying a bunch of things and maybe people will watch!

Enter my “Lindsay Tries” Video Series.

In this video series you’ll watch me trying and reviewing different fitness classes, equipment, beauty products, self-care options, girls’ night out events and…well…whatever it is y’all want me to try!

Here’s what you can expect from these videos:

  • An honest review of the product, class or service (rating based on peanut butter cups – 5/5 peanut butter cups = bombass);
  • Information on how to book, get started and what to expect;
  • Pros and cons (if it’s relevant);
  • Laughter and silliness (because life is heavy enough…video reviews need not be).

If you have in mind a product, class, piece of equipment, skin care regimen, self-care option, girls night out event or anything you’re simply curious about…let me know! I’ll reach out and see if I can’t give it a whirl for you and give you my honest review. I’ll try just about anything, so let me know what you’ve got in mind! Except anything to do with snakes. That’s a no-go. 100% I will tell you to jump off a cliff if it involves snakes.

If you run a business, have a product and/or service you’d love for me to review, please email me at lindsay@lindsaygee.ca and we can chat all about getting products/services reviewed! It’ll be a BLAST!

If you want to know about it, if you’re curious about something…I’ll try it. Just let me know! This is going to fun. This is going to be very, very fun!
