Absentee Mother on Father’s Day

June 13, 2016 By Lindsay Gee

Father’s Day is this weekend and once again I find myself absent from my family on Father’s Day. Some of the Hot Mamas and I are heading to Whistler this weekend to tackle Tough Mudder for the fourth, yes FOURTH, year in a row. And for some reason, our Mudder weekend often falls on Father’s Day.

This doesn’t usually set off bells, whistles and alarms at our house, but I often feel bad that I’m not here to celebrate the day with my kids’ very spectacular father. He always suggests we “do” Father’s Day the following weekend and it works out just fine. However, my kids are very excited this year to celebrate their Daddy and I know they’ll want to give their homemade gifts to him on the day of Father’s Day. I find as they get older it is getting harder and harder to “bump” celebrations to accommodate our schedules. Jeez…all this growing up!

If you know my family at all, you’ll know we’re an active sort. We like to get out and move our bodies as a family. Hikes, walks, workouts, sports, we really do try to get the kids moving as much as possible. So, usually any type of celebration is done by moving our bodies. But, it’s difficult to organize family activities when I’m going to be absent. “Hey HONEY! I organized this awesome hike for you and the kids to do on your special day” probably wouldn’t be the best gift. Although it might make me giggle, I’m a nicer person than that. Forgetting Leadership – My Wake-Up Call

June 9, 2016 By Lindsay Gee

Bear with me on this post, please.

I’ve previously written about what it’s like to be an entrepreneur. I’ve written that it’s exhausting, that it’s challenging, that it’s inspiring and that it is absolutely who I am and what I am meant to do. I am 100% entrepreneur. However, I don’t think I have ever been able to put into words what if  feels like to be the Founder of a company like Hot Mama. How it feels to be the leader of what, in my heart and soul, I know is an incredibly important business.

And I still can’t until you watch this video. If you could please take the 5-minutes to watch this video so you can understand what Hot Mama feels  like for me, it’ll help you understand what I’m blabbing on about for the rest of this post!

Okay. Now, this video will speak to a number of people in a number of different ways. But, if you want to know what my journey as the leader of Hot Mama is like…it is this. But, instead of one 160lb man on my back, I have 19 franchise owners, I have 50+ applicants, I have 1000s of Mamas who are already involved in Hot Mama and I have 100’s of 1000’s that still need my help. I also I have a 40lb daughter, a 60lb son and a 220lb husband up there on my back. [Read more…] about Forgetting Leadership – My Wake-Up Call

Hot Mama’s IGNITE Program – Torch Level: Days 9 & 10

June 9, 2016 By Lindsay Gee

I’m 10 days into Hot Mama’s IGNITE – Torch program and so far, so good! I’m following the nutrition guidelines (mostly, I still have trouble hitting that eating every 3 hours mark, but I’m working on it) and getting my workouts in. I’m feeling strong and I definitely have more energy!

Ten days in and I’ll say this much…I’m sore. Yesterday was the OHM’s Fav, so it was a quick down and dirty workout. There wasn’t a lot to report yesterday so I chose not to bore you with me “Yup, workout done!” post. Today I need to get Metabolic Workout #2 and Full Body Torch #2 done. These are two, shall we say, challenging workouts. I’m trying to wrap my head around attacking today.

My morning usually consists of getting up to work by about 4am. Lately, however, I’ve been sleeping until 5 because I’ve been extremely tired. I think 4 years of 4am wake-ups may be catching up with me! So, 5am seems to be the new norm. Anywho…I get up, work on my business with coffee in hand, kiddos and husband still sleeping…this is my ME time and I loooove it. I find I am MOST productive in these early morning hours. I love this time of day.

Around 6:45, kiddo #1 wakes, we have a hug and a kiss and a snuggle and I send him over to watch his sports highlights. Yeah…he’s seven and he loves his highlights. At 7 I Livestream on either Hot Mama or Lindsay Gee. Then…at 7:15I rejoice because it’s my scheduled time to workout and sweat and energize my body and soul. Hot Mama’s IGNITE Program – Torch Level: Day 7 & 8

June 7, 2016 By Lindsay Gee

I didn’t post yesterday! Did you miss it?! Did you miss me?! Hmmmm? Hmmmm?

Have no fear, I did not fall off the IGNITE wagon, I’ve been a good Torcher and stayed the course. Let me fill you in:

Yesterday was supposed to be my rest day, but I wanted to get back on track so that my Day 1 workouts started on a Monday. For me, psychologically I do better with that. I don’t know why, but I’ve decided not to analyze it and just accept my little oddities. So, I did not rest (and yes, I know the importance of rest and I cannot WAIT for Sunday to do just that).

Yesterday I got in my OHM’s Fav (cue trumpets and marching band and confetti…except not confetti because I sweat so much and it’d stick to me for days) and then went to a Hot Mama Strength and Sass class at our Westshore location instead of doing Full Body Torch #1.

To say I was grumpy yesterday is an understatement. I was MAD. M.A.D. – MAD. Lots of things went sideways and I’ve been feeling unsupported, under-appreciated and just, well, angry. I was angry all day yesterday. Stupid people, stupid business, stupid Lindsay, stupid dogs, stupid peanut butter knife, stupid bag of peanut butter cups just staring at me taunting me, stupid everything…and THAT is not like me. When Do We Lose Our Brave?

June 6, 2016 By Lindsay Gee

Last week I went to my children’s “Variety Show” at their elementary school. Going to the show I thought I would simply see something of a spring concert where all the kids sang with their classmates. You know…the songs they’ve been belting out in your kitchen for the last 2 months?! Typical school concert stuff.

What I didn’t expect to see was dance performances, singing, beat-boxing, solo music performances, even the sweetest ventriloquist in the history of ventriloquists. When the first number began and we saw a young gal sing “Fight Song” (with the cutest little lisp) while three of her friends danced in front of what had to be at least 100 people, my first thought was “she must be so nervous, I couldn’t do that!”.

As I watched performance after performance a question bounced around my head: When do we lose our brave? I turned to one of the Moms next to me and said “Would you ever do that?” to which she laughed and said “No friggin’ way!”. So…when do we lose our brave?
