Sweating with Confidence – It’s a Thing!

September 9, 2016 By Lindsay Gee

When I workout I am a sweaty, sweaty mess. My clothes are usually soaked and my hair looks “shower-fresh” (aka soaked!). Sometimes I look around at others while they workout and they’re “glowing”. Literally. They shimmer with little tiny sweat beads and I always think they look so healthy and fresh. I then wring out my ponytail, mop my face and get back to work…dripping my way through my entire workout.

So, when I find a product that is natural and that works? You bet your sweet buns I’m going to tell you about it! Enter Z Natural Life and their vegan-certified (yup, it sure is!) cream gel deodorants! What the what?!

Oh yes…I’m writing a post about deodorant.

I’ve always been very aware of what I’m putting in my body, but just recently I’ve started to think about what I’m putting on my body. I was given this product to try out and although I was hesitant (refer to paragraph one and all the sweating), I thought “Heck yes! Aluminium-free? Natural?” I’m in!”.

And put it to the test I did!

I was registered for a 13.5km wine run and figured it was the perfect time to trial out my new deodorant. As I prepared for the race I used the “Clean” version of the deodorant and thought to myself “Okay…this is going to go really well OR I’m going to need to apologize to my run team and buy them all wine at the end”.

The run was hot, hilly and very sweaty. And the result? Woop! Woop!!! An awesome new deodorant that effectively worked on my sweaty self. I ran for over 3.5 hours (with some wine-tasting in there) and my “smell-test” throughout was negative (no smell). This stuff is strong enough to last all day. I even had my best friend do the smell test on me in the washroom after the run. It was a little embarrassing when another woman walked into the washroom just as she had her nose in my armpit …but hey…all in the name of product testing! It was best friend-approved, as well.

Note: I am, once again, the sweatiest person in this picture! LOL

New deodorants that WORK, are vegan-certified, are aluminium-free (also free of propylene glycol, artificial colors and synthetic fragrances…but let’s not get technical) are exciting for sweaty people like me! I really do love this product.

You can get some for yourself online at www.znaturallife.com. I don’t endorse a lot of products, but this one, Mamas…oh this is a gooder. I’m a HUGE fan. I’m going to run and sweat and workout HARD with confidence that I won’t clear a room. Now that’s a great thing!

September 5, 2016 By Lindsay Gee

Now, now…just because it’s the long weekend doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be getting active. So, to ward off any of the (gasp!) excuses you may want to lay at my feet, I’ve put together a quick workout you can do. No equipment needed. Just you, a mat and your desire to sweat! YAY sweat!

Mamas! It’s Time to Put the Wine Down

September 2, 2016 By Lindsay Gee

Yeah. I said it. It’s time, Mamas. You can do it. You just…set it down. Better yet, go wash your wine glass right now and put it in the cupboard. Put it in the back of the cupboard. Waaaaay back.

While you’re at it, put down the Caesars (Bloody Mary’s for my American friends), the gin, the sangria, the vanilla-infused vodka, the margaritas, the beer, the all of it! It’s time. Time to get back to feeling great and nourishing your body the way it needs to be nourished so it can work and function the way you need it to function. Life gets busy(er) in the fall so it’s time to help your body out and fuel it properly.

Like many Mamas this summer, I permitted myself to just let go of the rules when it came to nutrition. I still worked out (although granted, it was less frequently than usual), but nutrition? No, I had no time for that. The best part? I simply permitted myself to let it go for a bit. I can be quite strict with my nutrition and this summer I simply needed a break from my own strictness. And break I did!

Bread, peanut butter (gasp! the sugar-added peanut butter!), chocolate for breakfast, white flour muffins, smores, chips, cheese, naaachoooos! Oh yeah, I did it all. Did it feel good at the time?! You bet your sweet buns it did! Does it feel good now? Um…no. Hence the reason it’s time to put it all away and get back on track.

Do I feel bad that I “took the summer off”? Nah. And neither should you. I’ve been talking with my friends over the past few weeks and they’re all feeling guilty about the food they ate over the summer, the drinks they drank and the snacks they hoovered around the campfire. Consider this your permission to let it go. Give yourself a break, won’t you?!

Did you have fun? Did you laugh? Were you silly? Did you enjoy those cold drinks in the heat of summer? Did you make wonderful and hilarious memories? See? It’s not all bad. So stop talking poorly about yourself. What’s done is done.  I’m a fitness professional, for goodness sake, and I know how to fuel my body properly…I simply decided not to this summer. And you know what? I say “GO ME!”. If I can let it go and not feel guilty about it, you should do the same. Okay?!

CCS_2927

The flip side to all the gluttony? Well, now I feel blech. My jeans are much too tight (thank the good Lord for leggings!), my arms jiggle a bit and my energy levels are kaput. I feel tired and sluggish. But I continue to refuse to berate myself. And so should you.

It’s okay to take a break every now and then. Give yourself, your body, your rules a break and don’t feel bad about it! Celebrate it! And now we make a plan.

I know the nutrition plan I will be following (it’s not even a plan, it’s just healthy eating) and I know the workouts I will be doing. Now, it’s all about prep. I need to write out my monthly meal plan and I need to schedule my workouts in my calendar. I encourage you to do the same. Make a plan, schedule it and let’s get back to feeling amazing, shall we?

Personally, I’m about to hit Hot Mama’s 28-Day at-home workout, IGNITE – Burn Level. It’s a good reset program and has a serious metabolic kick to help boost my sluggish metabolism. That’s what I’m going to do. What about you? How are you going to get back to feeling great this fall? I’d love to hear about it!

And Mamas…seriously…I hope you’ve enjoyed your summer! Don’t ruin it by guilting yourself about the choices you made. Embrace them, laugh at them and now make a plan to start feeling better. It can truly be as simple as that!

Celebrating Hot Mama’s BOLD 25

July 26, 2016 By Lindsay Gee

As most of you know, when I started Hot Mama, I had no intention of becoming a franchisor, of bringing a business to locations across the world and sharing my brain, my ideas and my passion with anyone. That sounds selfish, but the truth is that I never saw my own potential until I started doing what I was made to do in this world. Dramatic? Yes. But hey, I’m the OHM (Original Hot Mama), I’m allowed (where IS my crown?).

I started running Hot Mama classes because I had just left a job I didn’t love and started a different company (Compass Fitness) focused on corporate wellness. I thought because I had a Ph.D. that I should do something that sounded somewhat smart (silly labels). I didn’t live and breathe Compass Fitness and in fact, I wasn’t trained in corporate wellness so I couldn’t sell my product.I wasn’t confident. So, the company wasn’t succeeding. I decided to run a couple fitness classes because group exercise…well now…that energy just lights me up!

Hot Mama was created out of my desire to bring two hours of joy per week to my own life. I wanted to run Mama-friendly fitness classes because it made my heart happy, filled me with joy AND I could take my kiddos with me (then 14 months and 3 years old). It took a few months for people to start coming but even if I only had 1-2 people in class a week, I was doing what I loved. Eventually, it caught and BAM…Hot Mama became my world. Celebrating My Climb Out of Depression with Tough Mudder

June 27, 2016 By Lindsay Gee

As most of you know 2015 was a difficult year. I injured my knee when I jumped off a silly 4’ wall in March, had surgery at the end of May and succumbed to the darkness that covers and suffocates you that you all know as depression.

I was exhausted, sad, unmotivated. I didn’t workout. I went through my days a bit like a robot not really realizing how bad things had gotten in my mind. I was still a good Mom. I was still driving my business forward. I was doing everything I was supposed to do, but…I wasn’t feeling or living and thriving.

I gained 22.5lbs during my darkest months and in August 2015 I decided that enough was enough. I stomped on my fears, I woke up from exhaustion and I created workouts specifically designed to give me the metabolic boost and energy I so desperately needed. I gave myself 28 days to turn things around, and that, my gorgeous readers, was all I needed. IGNITE was born.

When I say “exercise is medicine”, I truly mean it. I lived and breathed this medicine and I am so very thankful that I was able to use my brain and my body to crawl out of that dark, lonely depression hole. [Read more…] about Celebrating My Climb Out of Depression with Tough Mudder
